literacy crisis

2 out of 3 of our children cannot read at grade-level

America’s early literacy crisis threatens to drastically impact this generation of children, their future and the future of our city. The solution requires bold action and public awareness by community collaboration.

Third grade is a pivotal point in student learning. This is the point when children transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Falling short of this milestone has significant consequences including: students not graduating from high school, and those that do graduate are not prepared for college, careers, or military service. The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading produced this video illuminating today’s literacy crisis.
