Literacy Crisis

51% of children cannot read at grade-level in Sacramento County.

Sacramento’s childhood literacy crisis threatens to drastically impact this generation of children, their future, and the future of our city. The solution requires bold action and public awareness through community collaboration.

Third grade is a pivotal point in student learning. This is the point when children transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Falling short of this milestone has significant consequences including: students not graduating from high school, and those that do graduate are underprepared for college, careers, or military service.
